Addition and renovation at Elizabeth Simcoe Elementary School. The scope includes interior alterations to Elizabeth Simcoe Junior PS, a 321-pupil place facility by 46 pupil places, to expand the facility from a JK-6 school to a JK-8 school. The school will require six classrooms to accommodate the additional students. The scope includes a 446 square meter (4,800 sq ft) addition for a double gymnasium, would then be constructed at the rear of the school. One of the existing general-purpose rooms would be repurposed as childcare space, the other into a specialty/withdrawal space such as an instrumental music. An open concept space on the second floor of the school (above the library) is proposed to be converted into four classrooms. The existing gymnasium situated at the east end of the existing school is proposed to be converted into a three-room childcare centre and associated program spaces. TIMELINE: A Request For Proposals for design services was awarded summer, 2023. The Ministry of Education funding is being finalized. The design is underway with completion expected March 2024. Tender and construction timing will be finalized based on funding approvals.
