I-Dads Association Centre Plaza Design Study -Construction The project's design purpose is to create a small gathering space to recognize the Illini Dads Association 100-year Centennial and celebrate the organization's legacy and many contributions to the University. The design utilizes the site's gently rolling terrain and grade changes to create a small, central gathering space that is created when two concrete sidewalks, going from east to west and north to south, cross each other through the middle of the site. The gathering space is highlighted by a gently curved, 7-foot-tall concrete wall. This concrete wall will be used to display art panels (by others) that are mounted onto the wall and lit with low-voltage, in-ground up-lighting. A concrete donor pier is located at each of the four entry walks into the space. Each walkway is flanked by a concrete curb that rises along with the existing terrain to eventually create three seat walls within the central gathering space. Also within the central space is a small lawn with large, outcropping boulders set into the lawn. And between the lawn and the art wall will be concrete unit pavers, some of which are donated and engraved by the Illini Dads. Besides extensive concrete construction and other items mentioned above, earthwork, grading, seeding, and revisions to the existing irrigation system will be included. The current site's gentle, mounded lawn rests between the Hallene Gateway and the Office of Registrar's northside parking lot. Return.
