The apparent low bidder will be invited to a pre-award conference tentatively scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 1947 Center Street, 4th Floor, Berkeley, CA. Questions concerning the anticipated work or scope of the project should be directed to the following Public Works Engineering staff no later than: 5:00 PM, Wednesday, November 9, 2022 Ian Bronswick, ibronswick@cityofberkeley.info Public Works, Transportation Division, 1947 Center Street, 4th Floor, Berkeley, CA 94704. The work of this contract is briefly summarized as follows: The Work generally consists of the installation of median refuge islands, hardened centerlines, solar-powered Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), crosswalk lighting, roadway signage, detectable warning surfaces, roadway striping, pavement markings, red curb painting, pavement rehabilitation, and concrete curb ramp construction. Refer to the Plans for a detailed description of the identified locations. More specifically, the Work consists of, but is not limited to, clearing and grubbing, saw-cutting, removal and disposal of existing pavements, vertical curbs, and curb ramps; placement of Asphalt Rubber Chip seal with Type II Micro-Surfacing seal, full-depth asphalt pavement base repairs (10-inch), cold-milling asphalt pavement and hot mix asphalt overlay (4-inch), and construction of new Portland Cement concrete medians, hardened centerlines, vertical curbs, and curb ramps; Installation of detectable warning surfaces, solar-powered Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon assemblies (RRFBs) and crosswalk lighting, light poles, foundations, programming of signal controllers, installation of pavement striping and markings, delineators, surface-mounted channelizer posts, signage, traffic control and conforming work within the adjacent right-of-way. The Work of this contract includes preparation and submittal of a Construction Phasing Plan, as well as Traffic Control Plans for each phase of work. The bid schedule in the Bidder's Proposal lists the base bid items, which are detailed in the Technical Provisions and in the Plans. California Contractor License Classification required: A California Class "A" General Engineering contractor's license is required to bid this contract.
