This project is included in the City of Framingham 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of October 24, 2023, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. A firm timeline for construction has not been established; however, funding is being allotted to fiscal year 2027. School Street Bridge - Construction. A detailed scope has not yet been determined. The School Street Bridge over Cochituate Brook is a reinforced concrete slab bridge that is almost 100 years old and at the end of its reliable life. Located just east of the signalized intersection of Concord and School Streets and the northern terminus of the Cochituate Rail Trail (CRT), the bridge is a key link in the City's transportation network. The existing structure is narrow, allowing for only two travel lanes, with no shoulders and one sidewalk. The proposed new bridge will enhance its structural integrity and avoid the potential for future weight restrictions for vehicles. The project will also provide shoulders and sidewalks on both sides connecting to the CRT, as well as 5-foot wide shoulders for bicycle accommodation along School Street and replacement of outdated (1920s) utilities in the area. The project will improve pedestrian mobility and safety by providing ADA/AAB compliant sidewalks along both sides of the street. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
