Construction of the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). he SAMIH is planned to be a training facility for healthcare professionals that would help with the growing crisis of medical staffing shortages. In particular, UTSC emphasizes the urgency for addressing health needs in the eastern Greater Toronto Area. SAMIH is also intended to be an inclusive hub for healthcare providers in Scarborough. AMIH will be a collaboration between UTSC, the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, and the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. It will serve as a hub for undergraduate health education and health professional training. The scope will be approximately 10,800 sqm and 5-storeys in height. Parking is proposed as temporary surface parking with 249 spots, to the east of the site next to the Toronto Pan-Am Sports Centre building. Bicycle parking is proposed as 42 short-term spaces to 14 long-term spaces. TIMELINE: RFQ for Design / Build teams closed June 24, 2022. Stage 2 Invited RFP / tender to the prequalified teams closed February 9, 2023 - Solicitation # P200-20-130 RFP. An award was confirmed April 2023. Site plan was submitted to the city of Toronto early July, 2023 and is under review. Detailed design is underway. Working drawings will proceed August 2023. Sub trade tenders will be issued to a prequalified list, beginning late 2023. Construction is expected to begin February/March 2024 for completion August 2026.
