The Kains Street Construction project includes watermain, sanitary sewer and storm sewer improvements, the construction of a roundabout at Kains Street, bike lanes and active transportation, pedestrian crossings, and parking lot improvements. Kains Street is classified as a Minor Arterial roadway in the St. Thomas Official Plan, forming an important link to Downtown St Thomas, and a commuter route for residents north of Talbot Street. Kains Street experiences an Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) volume of approximately 8,000 vehicles per day. The scope for this project includes the following Replacement of approximately 257 metres of sanitary sewers Replacement of approximately 145 metres of storm sewers and catch basin leads Replacement of approximately 1025 metres of watermain and appurtenances; Replacement of existing roadway, including installation of a roundabout at the intersection of Kains Street and St. Catharine Street, bike lanes, curb and gutter, multi-use path, and sidewalk Grading and restoration.
