Clearwater County plans to re-route heavy truck traffic from the Nordegg Quarry across Shunda Creek by building secondary access from Highway 11 to Quarry Road. The 2nd South Townsite Access will be located along the east boundary of the Hamlet of Nordegg and public land. Most of the new road will be constructed within an existing, 20 m wide, undeveloped road allowance (Range Road 15-2). This new access includes a crossing of Shunda Creek in SW-35-40-15-W5M.The Nordegg Quarry is currently accessed at Quarry Road (Quarry Rd) which is a dead-end access from Stuart Street (RR 15-2A). To reduce truck traffic along RR15-2A, a direct access from Hwy 11 is proposed. The new road will connect the Quarry to Hwy 11 at the existing T-intersection of Hwy 11 and Pine Martin Drive which will be upgraded to a 4-leg intersection. The existing Quarry Road will interconnect to the new roadway to create a redundant access. TIMELINE: Detailed design is ongoing. Tender and construction schedules may be confirmed late 2023, pending owner's final plans. *Budget for 2023 is $3.28 million.
