Reconstruction of West 1st Street from just east of NW Greenwood Street to just west of State Street. The existing four-lane street is only 41' wide (four - 10' lanes) and is proposed to be removed and replaced with a new five-lane street that is a minimum of 60' wide (four - 11' lanes with 2' curb and gutter sections along with a 12' center two-way left-turn lane). Additional improvements include sanitary/water/storm upgrades to replace the 50-year-old underground infrastructure; the addition of a new traffic signal at the West 1st Street and Linden Street intersection; and the addition of approximately 20 streetlights. Similar to the West 1st Street Widening and Improvements - Phase 1 project currently under construction in 2021 and 2022, it is anticipated that a joint utility trench will be necessary. Along with City/School fiber and other private utilities, it is assumed the existing overhead electric on the wood poles would be placed underground in the joint utility trench. The Public Works Department is proposing that the Phase 2 project's construction be scheduled for 2026 and 2027, with the joint utility trench construction in 2025. For the purposes of this initial Capital Project Request Form, it is estimated that the overall construction cost for the Phase 2 project is approximately $7 million, divided equally over two years. The estimate for the joint utility trench project is approximately $1 million. This project is included in the city's 2022-2026 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of December 14, 2022, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available. As of August 22, 2023, no new information available
