https://www.inside.iastate.edu/article/2023/09/21/preview Demolish LeBaron Hall and replace it with a new building. This project also renovates the corridor connecting LeBaron and MacKay halls and the Human Nutritional Sciences Building and about 10% of MacKay Hall. The $39 million project budget would be funded by private gifts and university funds. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Project calls for the demolition and replacement of LaBaron Hall. As of January 31, 2022, a architect has been selected. No firm timeline has been established for the construction. *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources. The content management team continues to pursue additional details; however, the contact(s) listed have yet to disclose or confirm any information. Inquiries should be directed to the contact(s) listed. LeBaron Hall was constructed in 1952 and has had no significant renovation since its original construction. Mechanical systems have reached the end of their useful life, and plumbing, electrical, and data systems have limited capacity and distribution to support programmatic needs. Accessibility, restrooms, elevators, and wayfinding need improvement to meet modern standards. The necessary infrastructure to support high-tech, cutting-edge equipment for program delivery and teaching and research laboratory design does not exist and cannot be added due to structural building limitations. The scope for this Design-Build project consists of but is not limited to, the demolition and replacement of the existing LeBaron Hall. The project will also renovate the circulation corridor connecting LeBaron Hall, MacKay Hall, and the Human Nutritional Sciences Building. The new building will offer a contemporary learning environment to encourage independent learning and leadership development, create a sense of community and inclusiveness, and better prepare students by facilitating industry-based and experiential learning. The project will include cutting-edge instructional spaces and a new general university classroom. New teaching laboratories will meet industry standards and program enrollment needs. Also included is a new commons area that will serve as a teaching and research space for the event management program and act as a student-centered collaborative working space for students, staff, and faculty. The project addresses high priority needs of CHS administration, students, staff, and faculty. Overall, a new facility elevates CHS programs, provides expanded quality students and the needs of current and future students, and enhances the teaching environment.
