Addition of a 3rd and 4th floor to the Vari Hall building at the Keele Campus. Each floor will have a footprint of approximately 1,860 sm (20,000 sf) above an existing administration and academic space. The location of the project is in the central core of campus. Vari Hall is a hub of activities and pedestrian thoroughfare at an active and dynamic University. Based on preliminary review, the use of mass timber was recommended to minimize the additional weight the new floors would add to the existing foundation and load bearing walls as well as limiting the amount of embedded carbon. TIMELINE: Request for supplier qualifications for consultants has been awarded. The Shortlisted Consultants will advise the owner through the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) process as a consortium is secured for design and construction. York is looking to create a collaborative culture amongst the team. Trust, knowledge, expertise, respect, problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal skills, etc. will be valued to result in positive solutions and outcomes.
