The objective of this project is to divert flows from Mill Creek to Brandts Creek near Spall Rd, to limit flood potential along Mill Creek within Kelownas urban centre. Flood peaks would be trimmed off and routed along Clement Avenue towards the lake. Brandts Creek, which is already a poorly defined ditch through the industrial area, would be completely updated as part of this flood protection project. This project has the added benefit of re-establishing Brandts Creek as a naturalized creek and linear park along the Rail Trail, providing options for fish passage, spawning, public access, and flood protection to the industrial area. Two new road crossings and creek daylightings would be provided along Recreation Avenue. Adjustments would be made to add control to the Sunset Drive culverts. TIMELINE: Project is pending budget approvals. Request for Qualifications for consulting services have closed and two consultants have been selected. Further update in late summer 2024, pending funding.
