Plans call for a new passenger rail line connecting the Coachella Valley and Los Angeles. Project is to include 144 miles of existing track between Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles and the Coachella Valley. Plans also include the construction of up to five new stations within Riverside County, joining an existing stop in Palm Springs. New stations to be located at or near: the Loma Linda/Redlands area; the communities of Beaumont, Banning, and Cabazon; near Cathedral City, Thousand Palms, Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage, and Palm Desert; and the City of Indio; the City of Coachella. As of October 27, 2023, $5 million in funding has been announced for the project and the money will go towards environmental studies. The total money raised for the project is $40 million. A timeline for construction has not been determined, however construction may begin withing ten years of completing the environmental study.
