Pacific central station (PCS) has over 15 roof top unit (RTU) that manage the ventilation and indoor comfort of the building. It is believed that all units have been installed in 1992, which gives them 25 years of age, while standard life cycle for that type of equipment is 15 years. It is necessary that the entire heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system of the station is reviewed and replaced all at once in order to allow optimal design while minimizing construction costs. This will also permit an efficient coordination and approval process with Parks Canada, considering the station is protected by the Heritage Act.
