The general nature of the work on which bids are requested is: 141.35 Units of Clearing and Grubbing, 37 CY of On-Site Topsoil Excavation, 216 CY of On-Site Class 10 Excavation, 146 CY of Off-Site Class 10 Excavation, 0.96 Acres of SUDAS Type 2 Seeding, 600.0 LF of Filter Socks and removal thereof, 639.4 TON of Rip Rap, 0.96 Acres of Erosion Control Mulching, 35.0 TON of Stabilized Construction Entrance, 250.0 LF of Temporary Safety Fence and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances in accordance with the contract documents. Each successful bidder shall be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its contract price. Said bond is to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council, shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained, shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract, and shall guarantee the maintenance of the improvement in good repair for a period of two (2) years from and after completion and acceptance by the City. The guaranteed maintenance period shall be four (4) years for new paving. Work shall commence as soon as possible after award and approval of the contract and performance bond. Work shall be completed no later than the designated contract completion date of November 22, 2024. Should the contractor fail to complete the work by this date, liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed. The City of Ames reserves the right to defer acceptance of any bid for a period not to exceed sixty (60) days after receipt of bids, and no bid may be withdrawn during this period.
