The proposed project will widen all legs of the intersection to provide right-turn lanes and dual left-turn lanes on all approaches. The project also includes traffic signal and pedestrian ramp upgrades. The SW Oralabor Road and SW State Street intersection was listed in the 2019 Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT)s Top 200 Safety Improvement Location Candidates at #6. The Citys safety study found that the intersection is operating over capacity during peak periods and identified a pattern of correctable congestion-related crashes. The project will address the safety issues by providing additional capacity. The proposed intersection configuration will include a right-turn lane, two thru-lanes and dual left-turn lanes on all approaches. These roads are joint jurisdictional with Iowa DOT as Iowa Highway 415 and 160, and Iowa DOT has reviewed the study and concurs with the recommendations. Funding applications were made to Iowas Clean Air Attainment Program (ICAAP) and Traffic Safety Improvement Program (TSIP) in 2020 and will be made to Urban-State Traffic Engineering Program (U-STEP) in 2021. The project is included in the city's 2022-2026 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of December 12, 2022, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified.* *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available. As of August 22, 2023, no new information available
