**As of March 7, 2022, this project has not yet been awarded. A timeline for award has not yet been established.** The project will install traffic safety improvements along 2,000 feet of Byron Highway starting from 500 feet south of the Byer Road intersection to Hoffman Lane to the north. The three major components of this project are 1) the dedicated left-turn pocket at Byer Road, 2) the two-way left-turn lane, and 3) wider paved shoulders. The west side of Byron Highway will be widened approximately 10 feet to allow for the left-turn pocket and two-way left-turn lane. The existing pavement striping will be revised to accommodate 6 foot wide paved shoulders on both sides of the roadway, 12 foot wide travel lanes, and 12 foot wide two-way left-turn lane/left-turn pocket. The work to be done generally consists of pavement widening along Byron Highway between the intersection with Hoffman Lane and 550 feet south of the intersection with Byer Road to construct a two-way-left turn lane along Excelsior Middle School frontage and a left turn pocket at the intersection with Byer Road. Ancillary improvements include striping, drainage facilities, slurry seal, a concrete median, hot mix asphalt walkway, driveway conforms, relocation and installation of rectangular rapid flashing beacon systems and installation of speed feedback signs
