As of June 16, 2021, a general contractor has been awarded and construction is underway. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The project consists of the new construction of a one-level educational facility for the Knox County School System. The facility will be located on the same site as the existing Adrian Burnett School ES. The existing facility will be required to be occupied and fully functional during the construction of the new facility. The facility will be classified as Education Group E and will be Type IIB Construction Type. The facility will be fully-sprinklered. The Building Area of the new facility is 84,532 sf. The facility is split into Building 1, Building 2, and Building 3 with a 2-hour fire wall between each of the buildings. A portion of Building 1 of the facility (designated for Kindergarten/1st Grade Wing) will be constructed to meet the requirements of ICC 500-2014, ICC/NSSA Standard Design & Construction of Strom Shelters. This portion of the facility will be designed to address the requirements for safe refuge from high wind & tornado events.
