Construction of a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art facility with approx. 18,300 spectator seats. The Facility is to include an arena bowl; seating; concourses; suites, loges, lounges, and clubs; amenities related to the use of the arena bowl; interior office space; media rooms or areas; dressing rooms, referee or officials rooms and emergency rooms; mechanical, electrical, boiler, fire protection, and information technology rooms; food service preparation areas; interior concessions; retail premises; vertical transportation systems including elevators, escalators, stairs; ticket offices; and all furniture, fixtures and equipment contained therein; all street-facing retail, commercial and other facilities; all loading dock, receiving, truck bay areas, trash and recycling requirements, below grade, at grade and above grade structured parking. The facility will be located on Blocks 92 and 95 and a portion of 13th Ave SE (the site extends to the street edge of curb between 12th Avenue SE, 5th Street SE, 14th Avenue SE and Olympic Way SE). TIMELINE: In late 2021, Calgary Sports & Entertainment Corp (CSEC) terminated their agreement with the city and the project was put on hold. Formal discussions on a new agreement for the arena commenced last year. An agreement in principal has now been established between the City, the Provincial government, CSEC; detailed documents are still being negotiated. A RFP for Development Manager was issued by the City in spring 2023; the award proponent has yet to be announced. Scope of work under this contract would be to oversee the design, permitting, construction and development of the Event Centre project and associated district-wide infrastructure. Construction schedules are yet to be determined. Further update may be available fall/winter 2023. Design is a joint venture between HOK Architects and Dialog. Construction Management is a joint venture between CANA Construction and Mortenson Construction. Original estimated cost: $634 million, current cost is estimated at $800M (2023). *Project information, including timeline and contacts, has been obtained through public sources.
