As of January 8, 2024, construction is complete. The project is the reconstruction of the Dowling Road / Seward Highway interchange that will address current and future travel demand and mobility needs. The improvements provide additional capacity and safety enhancements. Project limits include approximately 3,200 feet along Dowling Road, approximately one mile along the Seward Highway along with portions of the adjacent frontage roads (Homer Drive & Brayton Drive) and freeway ramps. The proposed improvements include: • Replacing the existing bridge (#1324) with a wider bridge to accommodate the recently expanded Seward Highway mainline to include six mainline lanes, fully developed shoulders and median. The new bridge is anticipated to be a 200 foot wide by 145 foot long single span 6.8 foot deep deck bulb tee. The bridge is anticipated to be on shallow foundations. • Re-aligning Dowling Road and the new Seward Highway bridge approximately 30 feet to the north to allow for larger roundabout diameters and reduce potential impacts to the existing power transmission line which runs on the south side of Dowling Road.
