The Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE) is a 7.42 km construction of new service on Line 1, extending north from Finch Station to Richmond Hill, curving away from Yonge Street near Centre Street and running at the surface along the existing CN Railway corridor, instead of tunneling all the way to Richmond Hill. underground to the proposed subway tunnel portal south of Langstaff Road, aligning with the CN Railway corridor. The proposed scope of work includes the two Primary Stations at Steeles, and Bridge (at-grade) and one Complementary Urban Core Station at High Tech (at-grade). Also included is a proposed crossing of the East Don River. The line will run at ground level in the northern part of the extension, linking up with the CN railway corridor in the area of Langstaff Road. TIMELINE: Engineering design and architectural design are complete. The architect is completing the preliminary design to 30 percent. A proposed alignment has been chosen for further Environmental Assessment (EA) as of March 2021. As of mid-December 2021, Metrolinx announced the release of a Request For Qualifications to complete early works at the TTC's Finch Subway Station, before major construction on the YNSE can begin. The province issued a Request For Proposals (RFP) for the contract to design and build the subway tunnels for the project on December 1, 2023, and award is expected late 2024/early 2025. The RFP was issued to a short-listed group of design build consortia to provide working drawings and manage construction. CrossTransit Group, North End Connectors and Toronto-York Tunnel Connectors were invited to respond to the RFP with proposals that detail how they will deliver the tunnelling project. Future schedules for design, tender and construction of the tunneling and infrastructure are undetermined pending the award of the design-build RFP. Further update spring 2025.
