Clarendon Hills will collect more than $162,000 over the first three years of a contract with a Lombard data service company that will lease space on the Burlington Avenue water tower for communication antennae equipment. The Village Board approved the agreement Tuesday for the initial three years, with an additional four five-year renewals possible. Village staff negotiated a lease that pays Clarendon Hills $52,000 a year, with a 4 percent annual increase, for the initial three-year term before the potential renewal periods would kick in. Village Manager Kevin Barr said the original proposal from MSA, LLC, called for an annual payment to the village of $36,000, with a 3 percent increase year. "This is obviously a much better deal for the village." Barr said. "This rent amount is based on other agreements the village has and the industry standard." Payments will go into the village's general capital improvement fund. "This is a valuable source of revenue for the village, as it allows us to apply these funds to projects, such as street resurfacing and vehicle replacement, without having to depend as much on other sources, including property taxes," Barr said. He said he expects MSA's equipment to be installed this summer. A MSA representative said the company provides data services to businesses and municipalities, but not to residential properties. Barr said the village has three existing commercial leases -- Sprint, AT & T and Verizon -- on the Burlington Avenue water tower and receives $63,000, $49,100, and $53,200 annually, respectively, from those cellphone carriers. A contract with T-Mobile ended within the past year, but the new deal with MSA will allow the village to collect more than $217,000 for the first year between the four existing contracts. The Burlington Avenue water tower holds up to 250,000 gallons and is scheduled for repainting and recoating in 2019.
