Construction Services for the Near Surface Disposal Facility. Construction services includes: Engineered Containment Mound (ECM) to encapsulate the disposed wastes. The ECM will be built in two phases with the current phase (Phase 1) enabling an initial waste capacity of 525,000 cubic metres (m3); Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) to receive and process contact water and leachate and discharge effluent to the environment that fully satisfies codes and standards. Support Facilities including a vehicle decontamination facility, office, operations support centre, security kiosk, and weigh scales; and, Site Infrastructure that comprises, for example, fencing, roads, utility tie-ins and services. TIMELINE: Project has been awarded to Wood PLC, Maple Reinders is the subcontractor. Awarded trades were not released for publication. The construction of the near surface disposal facility will not commence until the CNSC has granted a license to construct. Prior to any licensing decision, a CNSC Commission hearing must be held. A public hearing is scheduled for August 10, 2023. Application submitted to amend the site license to authorize the construction. The August 10 oral hearing is to allow the Commission to hear oral final submissions from Indigineous Nations & communitites that made oral interventions during Part 2 of the public hearing, and from CML. Updates may be available late 2024.
