Construction of a multi-use space which would have a maximum capacity of 100,000 people. Included in this project would be space to accommodate the Canadian National Exhibition and the Honda Indy, and drastically improve a now barren corner of the Exhibition Grounds. Festival Plaza would occupy a large parcel of land on the grounds, currently a parking lot south of BMO Field and the Direct Energy Centre, immediately south of Princes' Boulevard down to Ontario Place. TIMELINE: The consultant completed a master plan in 2019. The Festival Plaza development is part of the Exhibition place Strategic Plan 2022-2026. Capital funding has been allocated in the 2022 city of Tronto capital plan. As of spring, 2022 the owner's Board of Governors has voted to approve this project. The owner expects to seek future provincial funding grants in 2024. A Request For Proposals is expected in 2024 based on approvals. Further design, tender and construction timing will be determined in 2024.
