The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is accepting bids through the Invitation for Bids (IFB) process for a qualified firm to perform repairs on the top deck of the parking garage at the Rensselaer Rail Station (RRS). The Station has been in operation for nearly 15 years with Amtrak as the primary occupant amongst others. This station is among the 10 busiest for Amtrak in the United States with nearly 800,000 passengers using the service from that station each year. Work is expected to be substantially completed by November 2017, but an optional one year renewal is included to for any items that cannot be completed by the deadline due to changes in weather conditions. The follow items represent the general summary of work for the Rensselaer Rail Station project. Removal of existing membrane system: Remove and safely dispose of the existing waterproofing membrane system and includes cleaning the top surface of the structural topping slab without damaging the underlying concrete surfaces. Concrete topping repairs: Partial depth removal of any delaminated/deteriorated concrete in the cast in place concrete topping and rebuild the elements back to their original elevations using high quality concrete compatible with the existing concrete. Any existing corroded reinforcing shall be cleaned and supplemented with new reinforcing as required. Repair of cracks, construction joints and cove joints: All construction joints and floor cracks greater than 1/16" wide within the concrete topping are to be routed and sealed with a two-part polyurethane sealant. Work also consists of the installation of a cove joint at the intersection of vertical and horizontal surfaces using a non-sag two part poly-urethane sealant. Concrete curb removal and replacement: Work consists of the removal of the existing concrete islands, sidewalks and curbs and installing new reinforced concrete sidewalks, and curbs. The black wrought iron security fence at the main entrance needs to be retained, therefore, the existing sidewalk shall be saw cut around to keep the existing fence in place and as is. New curb face: Installation of new curb face at the islands and sidewalks is included in scope of work. Parking deck expansion joint repairs: Work consists of the removal of the existing expansion joint seal within the top parking deck and replacing with new traffic bearing water tight joint seal. Roadway expansion joint repairs: Work consists of the removal of the existing expansion joint seal at the roadway bridge and replacing with new heavy duty traffic bearing water tight joint seal. Expansion joint repairs at building line: Work consists of the removal of the existing expansion joint seal between the top parking deck and the station building and replacing with new water tight joint seal. Waterproofing membrane repairs: To prevent ingress of moisture and chlorides into the parking deck, and to reduce future concrete deterioration, provide application of a heavy duty traffic bearing waterproofing membrane system over all concrete surfaces at the completion of the floor slab repairs. This system consists of a waterproofing base coat and a heavy duty aggregate entrained wearing coat. New drains: Install additional floor drains as indicated on contract documents. Piping: Connect newly installed drains to the vertical stacks using new 4" cast iron pipes. New striping and painted signage: Provide new striping and painted floor signage for the top parking deck. Miscellaneous: Work to include construction phasing, traffic control during repairs, temporary partitions\ barricades separating work areas from public areas of the parking deck, etc. Site Lighting: Removals of existing light poles on top parking deck, including conduit, wiring and junction boxes underside of top deck. Provide temporary lighting on top level. Refurbish and repair existing site lighting fixtures and lighted bollards on top deck. Conduit, Wiring and Junction Boxes: Replace rusted conduit and junction boxes on the underside of the top deck structure, including wiring.
