Demolition, renovation and addition for a medical development in Alliston. Design calls for a wrap-around expansion of an existing hospital including an addition to the emergency department doubling that includes a separate entrance and increased, covered ambulance bays. The proposal doubles the square footage of the current hospital from 72,000-square-feet to over 161,000-square-feet, in addition to significant investment in essential equipment upgrades. The scope will include an expanded diagnostic and surgical services, a new birthing suite, and nine additional in-patient beds increasing the total number to 47, and construction of a new quiet room in the In-Patient Care ward. It will also include a redesigned front entrance and expanded parking lot. The Emergency Department will triple in size. Inpatient beds will increase by 20 per cent with a majority being. The repurposing and revitalization of the hospital's current building will become Phase 2. TIMELINE: A functional programming study was completed by the consultant. November 2018 the project secured funds through the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. A stage two capital submission was made to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care early 2019. A capital fundraising program is ongoing. The redevelopment project received Stage 1 approval from the Ministry of Health as of July 2020. An updated Stage 2 proposal was submitted in early 2021, and provincial funds are now secured. The architect has completed design for phase one. The owner will implement a Build-Finance construction model supported by the Ministry of Health and Infrastructure Ontario. Fundraising is ongoing. Demolition of the Mary McGill building on the site was completed early fall 2023. Early works projects began November 2023 and will continue into 2024. A Request For Quotations from Build-Finance Consortia is expected May/June 2024, with an invited Request For Proposals fall/winter 2024. Construction of the new hospital expansion slated to start late 2025/early 2026. *Total project value is estimated at $183-million.
